Bangla Road is now mostly known as Bangla Walking Street or even Thanon Bangla, and for many decades has been the notorious heart of all Phuket nightlife. This is the island’s party zone and like all night owls, Bangla Road awakens only after the sun sets. The battle for night supremacy is raging every single night between beer bars, live music bars, rooftop bars, night clubs and, of course, those famous go-go bars. Almost all bars are outdoors and music from each mixes in with the other to create a unique but deafening symphony.
Phuket which is known as the party capital of Asia has most of its visitors for its Bangla Road. This road gets packed with party enthusiasts once the sunsets. The charm of the road is enhanced by the shimmering lights and soft music sounds from the bars lined up across this road. The road, innocent and quiet by the light of day, slowly transforms into an infamous party hub as the sun sets. Over the years, the center of interest has been moving up and down Bangla road depending on seasons and popularity, but the ever-changing face of Patong nightlife is worth having a look at. On each side of the ‘Patong Walking Street’, as it is often called, are alleys, locally called ‘Sois’ where you will find more modest but often cheaper beer bars.
Bangla road is that street that stretches from the beach to Rat-U-Thit Road, near Jungceylon Shopping Mall. While it is a very anonymous one-way traffic street during the day, it turns into a crazy pedestrian walking street starting at 6 pm. It is still relatively quiet at the beginning of the night, as you can see on the photo above, but past 10 pm, expect to share it with a dense crowd.
Street food is the other major attraction to indulge in while strolling on this road. One can feast on mouth-watering dishes like grilled meat, fresh fruit juices, and other famous Thai food. Bangla Road is located in the coastal hub of Patong and is considered Phuket’s most lively place. The road attracts a major crowd on big occasions like Songkran festivities, New Year’s Eve for a grand celebration. You can see many touts advertising their menu and special offers on this road.
Bangla road is an all in one tourist location that has everything for everyone. For the shopaholics, this place has multiple markets selling clothes, souvenirs, and decoration items. One can stay clear of the thought of burning a hole in their pockets while shopping from this road as everything is quite cheap.
